After two years of open-air events, the Festival returns to a refurbished convention centre, featuring redesigned access points and larger terraces. affiche 2026

Fittingly flamboyant, the Montreux Jazz Festival struts into its 60th year with an haute couture creation, making Kévin Germanier the first fashion designer to create an official Festival poster. Originally from Valais, Switzerland, and now based in Paris, the designer has dressed Björk, Beyoncé and Lady Gaga, and designed the costumes for the Ceremonies of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, as well as the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest held in Basel.

Right away, I knew that I wanted to embroider the poster, treating it like one of my haute couture pieces. The challenge was to recreate the illusion of a three-dimensional artwork. To achieve this result, six people were embroidering at the same time. It’s a true technical feat – a kind of organised chaos.

kévin germanier

A piece composed of 60,000 beads and sequins

True to his signature upcycling approach, Kévin Germanier created the entire poster from recycled materials drawn from his previous collections. More than 60,000 sequins and beads in glass, wood, and plastic have been meticulously hand-embroidered onto a velvet backdrop. Wool and even fragments of electrical tubing can also be found woven into the work. This explosion of colour stands out even more vividly against a deep black background.

Inspired by Jean Tinguely

Kévin Germanier delved into the Festival’s historic poster archive, aiming to honour its legacy while leaving his own creative mark. The designer defined a preferred colour palette, then completed the first sketches by hand. He particularly found inspiration in Jean Tinguely’s poster, echoed in his own choice of colour, dark background, and even the feather motif.

My favourite posters represent the Festival in a way that isn’t literal. Music isn’t just a saxophone or a guitar; it’s a feeling. I tried to capture that explosion, that emotion that makes your body sway and your heart stir. I wanted something generous, dynamic and vibrant.

Kévin Germanier

The original artwork will be displayed at MUDAC in Lausanne as part of Kévin Germanier’s exhibition “Les Monstrueuses. Carte blanche à Kévin Germanier”, from 7 November 2025 to 22 March 2026. It will then be exhibited at the Montreux Jazz Shop from 3 to 18 July 2026.

About Kévin Germanier

Originally from Granges, in the canton of Valais, Kévin Germanier is recognized as one of the most distinctive voices in international fashion. A graduate of the prestigious Central Saint Martins in London, he founded his eponymous label in Paris in 2018, following a period at Louis Vuitton.

His explosive and conscious universe challenges conventions: blending haute couture with environmental responsibility, Germanier embodies a new era of sustainable luxury. By repurposing discarded materials — beads, crystals, feathers, or fabric scraps — he has created a spectacular, sensual, and boldly colorful visual language.

A heritage for the arts since 1967

Since its beginnings, the Montreux Jazz Festival has given Swiss and international artists carte blanche to design its official poster. In 1982, Jean Tinguely left his indelible mark, creating the unmistakable logo still used for the Festival today. In 1983, Keith Haring designed three versions, later collaborating with Andy Warhol in 1986. David Bowie made his contribution in 1995, followed in recent years by Yoann Lemoine (Woodkid), Malika Favre, Christian Marclay, Ignasi Monreal, JR, and Rylsee.

Closing of the 59th edition: a celebration of the ephemeral https://www.montreuxjazzfestival.com/en/news/cloture-de-la-59e-edition-une-celebration-de-lephemere/ Sat, 19 Jul 2025 19:15:40 +0000 https://www.montreuxjazzfestival.com/news/cloture-de-la-59e-edition-une-celebration-de-lephemere/ The 59th MJF came to a close yesterday, after sixteen days of musical euphoria shared by over 250,000 people in a festive, friendly and serene atmosphere. The closing of this edition also marks the last year of the Lake Stage, a parenthesis forever engraved in the history of the Montreux Jazz Festival.

As we bid farewell to the Lake Stage, we’re convinced that its ephemeral nature has added to the magic of the experience – like a concert you only experience once and remember forever. These two years have proved that the Festival can reinvent itself while remaining true to its soul and values. In Montreux, there will always be that rare alchemy between a place, a history, an audience and its artists. An alchemy that gives rise to exceptional performances every summer.

A page is being turned, but a new one is already being written. In 2026, the Festival will celebrate its 60th edition in a transformed Convention Centre, with a new playground to explore. In the Auditorium Stravinski, we’ll rediscover the sound excellence and listening comfort that are an integral part of our DNA. Outside, on the quays, everything remains to be imagined. On the strength of our recent experience – from the Lake House to the Spotlight Stage, not forgetting the extension to the Place du Marché – we face this challenge with the desire to amaze and surprise you once again.

A huge thank you to the artists, the public, our staff, the people and authorities of Montreux, and our service providers and partners, without whom this extraordinary two-year adventure outside the walls of the Convention Centre would never have been possible.

“For those who know me, you will know how much this stage means to me. We printed a vinyl [from last year’s show] – that’s how obsessed I am with this stage!”

RAYE

“Mark my words: in the next 10 years I am going to live in Montreux. This place is magical. Thank you for having me.”

Benson Boone

” Montreux is the high watermark. If you can headline here, you made it globally. This festival careers a lot of weight.”

Joe Bonamassa

“This is a really big deal for us to be back. The first time we played here, this was the most terrifying thing. Everyone said to me ‘They are a very arty crowd. Your performance really matters’. It is one of these shows that is burnt into my memory.”

Hannah Reid, London Grammar

These events are part of the Festival’s free programme.

The second Festival weekend will feature around twenty events showcasing the richness and diversity of British culture. Highlights include: a concert by Yazz Ahmed, a workshop with Jarvis Cocker, a DJ set by Benji B, a vinyl listening session of Wish You Were Here (Pink Floyd), and a screening of the documentary The British Jazz Explosion.

Southbank Centre x MJF Residency

At the heart of this collaboration is the concert Searching for Nina Simone’s Spirit, taking place on 12 July at The Memphis. This original creation is the result of a two-part residency – first in London last January, then in Montreux – bringing together two British artists (Daisy George and Zoe Pascal) and two Swiss talents (NNAVY and Matthieu Llodra), under the direction of Soweto Kinch.

These events are presented by the Montreux Jazz Artists Foundation in collaboration with the Southbank Centre – the UK’s largest arts centre, home to four iconic London venues: the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room, and Hayward Gallery.

Last week, Laylow announced the cancellation of his tour to focus on his new album. The Montreux Jazz Festival was committed to finding an artistic alternative that resonated with Yseult’s universe, as she was scheduled to open the show. When the opportunity arose to invite Grace Jones, the choice was clear. The result promises to be captivating: two generations of bold female artists united by their shared love of breaking boundaries and defying musical genres.

GRACE JONES RETURNS FOR HER FOURTH CONCERT IN MONTREUX

Avant-garde singer, fashion icon, Bond girl and Andy Warhol muse — Grace Jones’s life is a true work of art. Her versatile discography pushes the limits of disco, pop, R&B, reggae and new wave. On stage, her deep voice and striking presence radiate a unique energy — glamorous, radical and androgynous. Eight years after her legendary performance at the Stravinski Auditorium, Grace Jones is finally returning to Montreux.

YSEULT’S BOLD ARTISTIC TURN

Long known for her haunting ballads, French singer Yseult takes a daring leap with Mental — a raw, visceral punk-rock album sung mostly in English. Last year, she became the most-listened-to French-speaking female artist in the world on Spotify, thanks to the hit single Alibi, featuring Sevdaliza and Pabllo Vittar. She also made a powerful impression with her performance at the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games.

Tickets are on sale now. Prices for the evening (from CHF 97 for standing) remain unchanged. Ticket holders who wish to request a refund may do so. Those who purchased tickets online have received an email with instructions; others can contact our customer service team at: ticketinfo@mjf.ch.

2025 Poster: Lakwena pays tribute to Nina Simone https://www.montreuxjazzfestival.com/en/news/affiche-2025-lakwena-rend-hommage-a-nina-simone/ Mon, 04 Nov 2024 15:43:19 +0000 https://www.montreuxjazzfestival.com/news/affiche-2025-lakwena-rend-hommage-a-nina-simone/ London artist Lakwena has created the poster for the 59th Montreux Jazz Festival, which will be held from the 4th to 19th July 2025. The typographic work with psychedelic inspirations quotes lyrics from the song "Stars", performed by Nina Simone during an iconic performance in Montreux in 1976.

A dizzying profusion of colours, hypnotic shapes and a message in capital letters that both calls out and intrigues: Lakwena’s psychedelic work immediately catches the eye. The London-based artist, of British and Ugandan origin, is renowned for her colourful work focusing on typography and powerful messages. As usual, the Montreux Jazz Festival gave her carte blanche to create the poster.

“My colour choices are very intuitive and free. I like to juxtapose contrasting colors, so they vibrate and play with the eye. The artwork has a psychedelic and dazzling feel, which I like. I wanted to really captivate and amaze people. “

    ALL YOU SEE IS GLORY

Using text as the central visual element, Lakwena has created the first typographic poster in Festival’s history. The work revolves around five words – ALL YOU SEE IS GLORY – a short and powerful message that invites various interpretations.

The phrase is taken from the lyrics of the song “Stars”, composed by Janis Ian in 1974 and played by Nina Simone at Montreux in 1976. During her research on the Festival, Lakwena was immediately struck by Nina Simone’s performance, which she describes as “so intimate, raw and authentic”. The charged performance – in which she orders a woman to sit down – is one of the most iconic of the artist’s career, appearing in the documentary “What Happened, Miss Simone?”.

“To me, the glory is referencing the legacy of the Festival, its legendary concerts, the beauty of its lake and mountains. But like a lot of my work, it can be read in several ways. There is also a bittersweetness about it, because the song “Stars” is very much about how fame is passing. I think it’s a really grounding concept and a nice contrast to our culture’s obsession with fame. Glory can be passing, fleeting and brief, but it is beautiful.”

    ABOUT LAKWENA

Vibrant colour and bold text combine in Lakwena Maciver’s joyful and gently subversive work. Her paintings, murals and installations often reference everyday shared experiences and popular culture, such as songs, fashion and basketball. Bringing messages of hopeful possibility, Lakwena speaks to points of connection and commonality between people, with a utopian vision that dreams of redemption and liberation. Her approach is instinctive and autodidactic, producing visceral, rhythmic and immersive panel paintings, iconic murals and installations.

Based in London, Lakwena’s work has been shown internationally in cities including London, Paris, Rotterdam, New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Miami, and at institutions including the Tate Modern, Tate Britain, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Somerset House, the Southbank Centre in London and the Rotterdam Kunsthal. Her works in the public realm have ranged from one of the largest public artworks in the UK wrapping an electrical substation in London, to a juvenile detention centre in Arkansas, a monastery in Vienna, and the Bowery Wall in New York City.

A historic challenge, enormous gratitude https://www.montreuxjazzfestival.com/en/news/un-defi-historique-une-gratitude-immense/ Sat, 20 Jul 2024 21:57:05 +0000 https://www.montreuxjazzfestival.com/news/un-defi-historique-une-gratitude-immense/ The MJF came to a close yesterday after sixteen days of musical celebration in the heart of Montreux. Organised outside the walls of the Convention Centre, this first-ever edition lived up to all its promises with its breathtaking Lake Stage, its intimate Casino Stage and a redesigned route along the quayside.

Over the last two weeks, there have been many magical moments on the Festival stages. But as we take stock of this exceptional edition, we’d like first and foremost to express our immense gratitude to the people who have worked behind the scenes to help make the Festival’s transformation a success.

This edition would never have seen the light of day without the trust, kindness and passion of so many people: our public, who responded with enthusiasm and curiosity; our staff, who worked with dedication on an enlarged and often more demanding site; the people of Montreux, who cohabited with the Festival for nearly two months; the authorities, who supported us from the very first sketches of the project; our service providers, whose expertise and loyalty were essential; and our partners, whose unfailing support was more precious than ever.

Organising the MJF away from the Convention Centre was one of the biggest challenges in the Festival’s history. Together, we made it possible to stage an event that will live long in the memory.

“I cannot believe we are headlining Montreux Jazz Festival today. Those of you who know me know just how crazyyyyy this is to me as a musician and as a girl with a Swiss Grandad who is going to see me play for the first time.”

    Raye

“It’s pretty easily the most beautiful stage I’ve played on. I’ve been watching and listening to Live at Montreux records my whole life. It’s got this kind of aura about it, there’s something magical about it. The crowds here are really connoisseurs, real music lovers. It’s like a secret music hideout.”
